Title

Orlando - 'Florida's City Beautiful'.
  1936 (dated)     21.5 x 16.25 in (54.61 x 41.275 cm)     1 : 16200

Description

This is a 1936 Orlando Chamber of Commerce city plan or map of Orlando, Florida. Coverage extends from central Orlando from Par Avenue south to Lake Wade. An alphabetic street index spreads across three of the map's four corners, further aiding motorists. A thick red line highlights a 'twenty-three mile scenic drive' promoted by the Orlando Chamber of Commerce that visits many of Orlando's lakes and other landmarks, including the Mead Botanical Garden.
Publication History and Census
This map was created for and published by the Orlando Chamber of Commerce in 1936. There appear to be two states of this map. One state (of which the present example is representative) includes red overprinting highlighting a 'twenty-three mile scenic drive' while on the other state the overprinting is absent. We note five examples of a map bearing this title cataloged in OCLC which are part of the collection at Harvard University, Syracuse University, Pennsylvania State University, the University of Chicago, and the Jacksonville Public Library. Unfortunately, none of these records include images of the cataloged map, so there is no way of knowing which state these examples represent. We also note an example of the state without the red overprinting at the Touchton Map Library, Tampa Bay History Center.

Condition

Good. Toning. Wear along original fold lines. Two areas of infill at fold intersections. Slight loss at one fold intersection. Text on verso.
