Description

An important early map of Beijing or Peking, China, dating to 1885. This map was issued at the end of the Sino-French War (1884 – 1885). It covers all of Beijing as well as some of the surrounding countryside. Supplementary maps above and to the left of the mail map detail the Bai He River (Hai River) the Purple Bamboo Forest, and Tianjin (Tientsin). Streets, important buildings, and watercourses are noted. This map was printed during the Qing Dynasty by (or Meiji 18 by Japanese dating) Ashano News, a Japanese run news agency.

Condition

Good. Paper very fine. Restoration of old splits and one large tear on verso.
