A rare 1878 map of Boston and its vicinity illustrating the district burnt by the Great Boston Fire of November 90-10, 1872. Centered on Boston State House, this map covers from West Cambridge to Hangmans's Island and from Breeds's Island to Newton. The map is mostly black and white, but certain areas are distinguished with color coding:
- Green - The original shore line of Boston Proper.
- Blue - The Present East Boston.
- Red - The districted burned by the Fire of Nov. 9-10, 1872
Curiously, unlike most maps by the American Association of Civil Engineers, this map bears no imprint. This map is quite rare, with only three known institutional examples citied by the OCLC: The Huntington Library, Harvard, and UC Santa Barbara. A fourth example is held by the Leventhal Center at the Boston Public Library.
Good. Some damage where originally attached to binder. Minor wear on original fold lines. Backed on archival tissue. Accompanied by original binder.
