A Closer Look

Oriented towards the northeast, with Los Angeles and San Diego in the foreground, the view looks out over the mountains and valleys of California, Nevada, and nearby states. The dramatic topographic variety of the region is immediately apparent, with mountain peaks labeled and elevations given, including Mt. Whitney, which, at roughly 14,500 feet, is the tallest mountain in the contiguous United States. Both major and minor cities are illustrated, and highways are traced and labeled. Landmarks such as national parks, Hoover Dam, and the Golden Gate Bridge are readily recognizable. The verso discusses tourist attractions in the different parts of California and Nevada, with phone numbers and addresses of tourist information centers along the way.

This map was prepared by Unique Media, originally in 1991, with updated editions in 1992 and this 1993 edition. The various editions of the map are held by about 15 institutions in the OCLC.
