Description

This is a 1924 Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) bird's-eye view map of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. The map highlights the CPR's efforts to promote tourism along its lines to the Canadian Rockys through the construction of grand hotels, spur lines, and other infrastructure.
A Closer Look
With Vancouver in the foreground and Edmonton in the background, red lines trace the railroads connecting the coast with points inland. Cities, towns, and villages along the railroad's routes are labeled, along with those connected by roads. Steamship routes are noted from Vancouver through the Strait of Georgia and the Juan de Fuca Strait. Smaller routes operate on the larger lakes. Yoho Park, Glacier Park, and Rocky Mountains Park are within the view's scope. Pictorial profiles illustrate the Banff Springs Hotel in Rocky Mountains Park, Glacier House in Glacier Park, and the Sicamous Hotel in Sicamous, along with several others. An inset in the upper left depicts the Canadian Pacific coast from Skagway south to Seattle, with steamship lines, roads, and railways illustrated.
Publication History and Census
This map was created for and published by the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1924. We note examples of earlier and later editions of this view cataloged in OCLC (many of which have verso content - unlike the present example), but we do not see any cataloged examples of the present 1924 edition.

Condition

Very good. Light wear along original fold lines. Verso repairs to fold separations and at fold intersections.
