Description

This is a 1959 Survey Department city plan or map of Singapore. The map depicts the city from the Dalvey Estate to the Kalang River and from the Government Trade School and Balestier Plain to the East Wharf and Keppel Harbour. Locations are labeled throughout the city, including the Raffles Hotel, the Central Fire Station, Fort Canning in King George V Park, the General Hospital, and Her Majesty's Prison. Black and white dashed lines identify railroad tracks. Roads are illustrated and most are labeled. Forty-four locations around the city are numerically identified and correspond to a reference situated along the right border. Among these are the New Alhambra Theatre, the Raffles Girls' School, the Straits Times Press Ltd., the Raffles Museum of Library, the Odeon Cinema, the Y.M.C.A., and the Y.W.C.A.
