'Discover America' with Coca-Cola!

Title

Play 'Discover America' with Caps from Coke.
  1962 (dated)     17 x 22 in (43.18 x 55.88 cm)

Description

This is a 1962 Coca-Cola game map of the United States issued as part of Coca-Cola's campaign 'Discover America'. Coca-Cola produced 102 vignettes of sites across the United States (two for each state) and printed them on the bottom of their bottlecaps. A 'USA' shield on the cap indicated that it was part of the campaign. Once all 102 were collected, they could be redeemed for a whopping one 6-pack of Coca-Cola and another of Sprite. Coca-Cola also produced a 'collection card' upon which caps could be pasted to keep track of the collection.
The Game
The map was created as a game with the instructions printed on the lower right. Players used the caps to move across the country from Maine to Hawaii, drawing caps out of a bag to move. The country is divided into four 'zones', and players can only move to the next closest zone. The first player to draw Diamond Head, per the rules, wins.
Publication History and Census
This map was created and published by Coca-Cola. We have not found any cataloged examples in institutional collections or in OCLC. The map is equally scarce on the private market. We are aware of not other instance when the map, an unused collection card, and a complete collection of 102 bottle caps have been offered together.

Condition

Very good. Light wear along original fold lines. Light soiling. Slight loss at a fold intersection. Accompanied by 'Discover America Collection Card' and 102 bottle caps.
