Description

This is a c. 1957 Maas Brothers placemat map of Florida. An outline map of the state dominates, and four Maas Brothers restaurants are noted: the Neptune Room in Tampa, the Sunshine Room in St. Petersburg, the Everglades Room in Sarasota, and the Imperial Room in Lakeland. Palm trees and other greenery completes the placemat's tropical aesthetic.
Maas Brothers
Maas Brothers was a department store founded in 1886 by brothers Abe and Isaac Moss in Tampa, Florida. By the time it went bankrupt in 1991, the chain numbered thirty-nine stores throughout the Gulf Coast of Florida. The store was known as 'Greater Tampa's Greatest Store' and is fondly remembered. Many Maas Brothers locations became anchors for malls, some of which still operate as Macy's stores. Maas Brothers operated four fine dining restaurants inside their stores: the Neptune Room in Tampa, the Sunshine Room in St. Petersburg, the Everglades Room in Sarasota, and the Imperial Room in Lakeland. These restaurants helped Maas Brothers create 'a complete shopping experience'.
