Description


This is an whimsical and attractive c.1950 pictorial map of the United States by John Dukes McKee. The map covers the entire nation with numerous illustrations and scenes representing the nations folklore and legends. Some of the illustrations feature Buffalo Bill, Sacajawea, Forty-Niners, Billy the Kid, Rip Van Winkle, Salem Witch, Ponce de Leon, Huck Finn, Tom Sawyer, Idaho Potato, Custer’s Last Stand, Jean Lafitte, and Coronado, among several others. The map was essentially created for school children and presents a diverse history of the United States and includes both true and fictitious, yet significant accounts in American history.

The map was drawn by John Dukes McKee and copyrighted by Scott, Foreman and Company to be issued as part of the ‘History for the Upper Grades’ reading series of Living in Our America.

Condition


Good. Minor wear along original fold lines. Some damage and loss over Florida, filled in. Overall toning and some foxing at places.
