Description

This is a 1962 Occidental Publishing Company map of buried treasure and sunken ships in California and Nevada. Throughout the map, lost mines, buried treasure, and sunken ships abound, capturing the romance of the treasure hunt.
A Closer Look
The locations of over 300 mines, sunken ships, and buried treasure appear throughout California and Nevada. An index on the verso identifies each site, along with a disclaimer that reads,
Although a great amount of detailed and expert research has gone into the preparation of this work, the subject is understandably one wherein complete accuracy is not attainable. Authorities themselves do not agree upon locations in many instances. Neither the creators of this map nor the firm whose name appears hereon can be responsible for any inaccuracies.
The whole is surrounded by a 'pictorial' border comprised of marks used on treasure maps. All 76 are numbered and correspond with an index below the map. Based on historical references, these symbols provide directions to the treasure, other clues, and/or the type of treasure.
