Description

This is a c. 1948 Walter O. Green and Rocky Mountain Motor Company pictorial tourist map of north central Colorado, including Rocky Mountain National Park. The map beautifully illustrates the Rocky Mountains while promoting the Motor Company's tours from Denver west into the mountains.
A Closer Look
The map is oriented toward the west, with Denver in the lower left. Estes Park, Longs Peak, Rocky Mountain National Park, and Trail Ridge Road appear in the map's upper right. Granby is labeled along the top border near the center, and Mount Evans and Echo Lake are identified along the left border. Colorado's landscape is illustrated pictorially, with the Rocky Mountains dominating most of the map and the high plains (complete with farmhouses and plowed fields) in the foreground. Charming illustrations of Colorado wildlife, including elk, deer, and bison, decorate the map, along with cowboys, a skier, and a prospector and his donkey. Bold red lines highlight the routes taken by the tours operated by the Rocky Mountain Motor Company. Details concerning the company's various tours are included below the map, with departure and arrival times provided.
