Description


This is a 1909 postcard bird's eye view of the Pinellas Peninsula and St. Petersburg, Florida. The view depicts the region from the east, with Tampa Bay in the foreground and Fort Dade, Egmont Light, and the Gulf of Mexico in the background. Downtown St. Petersburg, though unlabeled, is situated near the bottom border along Tampa Bay and is highlighted by a large collection of buildings, some of which are colored red. The Atlantic Coast Railway Line just west of St. Petersburg is identified. Ships ply the waters of Tampa Bay and Boca Diega Bay and Salt Lake, Maximo Point, Veteran City, Long Key, and Pass-a-Grille are labeled. Manuscript notes mark a fishing spot and a bathing spot near Long Key.
Publication History and Census
This postcard was published in 1909 and postmarked in 1916. We have been able to locate only one other instance when this postcard entered the private market.

Condition


Good. Even overall toning. Light soiling. Closed tear extending one half inch into printed area professionally repaired on verso. Closed margin tears professionally repaired on verso. Text on verso.
