Description

This is a 1930 Frederic T. Bailey pictorial map of Scituate, Massachusetts, drawn to highlight the town's history and charm.
A Closer Look
Numerous buildings in Scituate Center, North Scituate, and Scituate appear as pictorial illustrations, including several churches, the 'old high school', the central station of the New England Telegraph and Telephone Company, and the Jenkins School. Arrows connect the illustration with the exact location represented on the map by small black boxes. An inset along the right border focuses on the Fourth Cliff and Humarock. An excerpt from 'The Old Oaken Bucket' appears in the lower left and part of the poem 'December in Scituate' is included along the upper border.
Publication History and Census
This map was compiled by Frederic T. Bailey in 1929 and published in 1930. Bailey published later editions in 1936 and 1947. We note a single cataloged example of the 1930 edition, at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. Examples of later editions are part of the collections at Harvard University and the State Library of Massachusetts.
