Description

This is a 1964 Texas Power and Light Company pictorial tourist map of Texas. Pictorial vignettes illustrate Texan industry, wildlife, landscape, and tourist sites. Palo Duro Canyon State Park and Guadalupe Peak appear alongside cowboys riding bucking broncos, prairie dogs, armadillos, deer, and bison. Between the illustrated agricultural fauna (cattle, sheep, and other livestock) oil derricks appear. Museums, famous buildings (including the Alamo and the Cotton Bowl ), and universities are referenced throughout. Light gray dashed lines trace historic trails through the state, such as the El Camino Real and the Chisholm Trail. Six flags situated in the upper left reinforce Texas's history, first as a Spanish colony, then as an independent nation, and finally as a state within the United States of America.
