Description

This is a 1921 Dutch East Indies Official Tourist Bureau map of northern Sumatra and the sultunate of Aceh. The map depicts the region from Simeulue (P. Simeuloƫ) to the Malay Peninsula and Singapore and from Sabang Bay and We Islands to central Sumatra and Telukdalam (Telokdalem) on Nias. Highly detailed, myriad cities, towns, villages, and other settlements are labeled, along with numerous rivers and lakes. Roads and railroads are also illustrated, with three different grades of roads, from 'regular motorcar services' to horse and footpaths are illustrated, allowing a tourist a better understanding of how to travel around the island. Distances between cities are marked in red numbers, which also allows for an idea of the distances involved.

This map was created and published by the Dutch East Indies Official Tourist Bureau in 1921.
