1976 Oski Pictorial Wine Map of Italy

ViniItalia-oski-1976

Italian wine!

Title

Vini d'Italia.
  1976 (dated)     37.25 x 26.5 in (94.615 x 67.31 cm)

Description

This is a 1976 Yanez Oski pictorial wine map of Italy. The map celebrates Italy's rich viticultural tradition.
A Closer Look
Banners proclaim denominazione di origine controllata ('D.O.C.'). (Denominazione di origine controllata is a classification system that requires a wine to be produced in a certain region and to satisfy defined quality standards. It is roughly equivalent to the French AOC or appellation d'origine contrôlée system.) Bright colors highlight Italian provinces, each of which is identified, including Sicily and Sardinia. Malta appears as well. Hilarious illustrations/caricatures of people populate the map: sunbathing, fishing, and taking pictures. Elba is illustrated just off the coast of Tuscany; Napoleon Bonaparte occupies the island, identifiable by his famous bicorne hat.
Publication History and Census
This map was designed by Yanez Oski, edited by Istituto Nazionale per il Commercio Estero, and published by the Ministero del Commercio con l'Estero. We note two examples cataloged in OCLC: University of South Carolina and University of Colorado Colorado Springs. This map has appeared on the private market only a handful of times in recent years.
