American Library Association (October 6, 1876 - Present) is an American nonprofit organization chartered with promoting libraries and library education. Founded on October 6, 1876, in Philadelphia during the Centennial Exposition, the organization's inittial resolution stated that its goal was 'to enable librarians to do their present work more easily and at less expense'.
