The State Abstract Company (1886 - Present) was founded in 1886 by James S. Pinckard (d. July 15, 1926), a local businessman and real estate developer. It is unclear exactly when, but at some point Pinckard sold his stake in the State Abstract Company to Jack Thorington, Sr. (d. May 28, 1936) who served as president of the company until his death. Then his son, Jack Thorington, Jr. became president of the company, and we have been unable to locate any details of his time running the business. Today, the State Abstract and Title Company, most likely the same business started by Pinckard in 1886, is still operating in Montgomery.
