The War Resisters League (WRL) (1923 - Present) is a secular pacifist organization founded in 1923 in the United States by men and women who had opposed American involvement in World War I. The WRL is part of War Resisters' International, an anti-war organization based in London. Many of the WRL's founders served prison sentences during World War I for refusing to serve in the military. After the war ended, these individuals founded the WRL. WRL members protested World War II, but, since they were not religious conscientious objectors, they were drafted into 'civilian' positions. The WRL continued protesting American military actions and military spending and was pre pf the first pacifist organizations to call for the end of the Vietnam War. Today the WRL continues to protest American military spending and publishes a pie chart of American government expenditures annually.
