Joseph Wells (April 8, 1808 - October 5, 1874) was an English-American engraver active in Brooklyn, New York, in the late 19th century. Wells was born in Birmingham,e England where mastered line engraving. He emigrated to the United States, settling in Brooklyn, New York, on Aug 28, 1837. Well's pioneered the transient from copper to steel plate engraving in the mid-19th century. He was active as an engraver until about 1870.
