Louie H. Ewing (1908 - 1983) was a New Mexico-based artist, illustrator, and printmaker best known for his work relating to Native American arts. Born in Idaho, Ewing moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 1935 to work with the Federal Art Project, becoming a specialist in silkscreen printing. He worked extensively on the Index of American Design (1935 - 1942). In the postwar period, he continued his study of Native American arts and became a teacher, passing on his knowledge of silkscreening to local Native American artists. Ewing compiled and published multiple works relating to Native American Art, including the series Masterpieces of Primitive American Art, published in the mid-1940s.
