Johan 'Jan' F. Menting (May 4, 1920 - February 5, 2003) was a Dutch artist and illustrator active in the mid to late 20th century. Menting was born in Kerkrade, the Netherlands. In Amsterdam, he trained as an artist under Bauhaus designers fleeing Nazi Germany (their art was considered 'at odds' with the values of National Socialism). He cut his teeth as an illustrator, creating poster art for KLM, Mobile, Hands, and other companies. Menting relocated the United States in 1947, ostensibly to take a 3-month position in the New York office of KLM, but ultimately emigrated and set up an art studio in Westerlo, upstate New York.
