Mark Howard Podwal (June 8, 1945 - September 13, 2024) was an American artist, filmmaker, author, and physician. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Podwal grew up in Flushing, Queens, New York. He attended Queens College and then became a dermatologist after studying dermatology at the New York University School of Medicine. His first work was published n 1971, but drew as a hobby before then. He was probably best known for drawings published on the New York Times Op-Ed page. He also illustrated numerous books, both his own and those of other authors. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Prague, and the Victoria and Albert Museum are only a handful of institutions that have his work in their collections.
